
Beaches and marinas awards with "Blue Flag" for the year 2009 have been announced by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF). With 425 award-winning beaches, Greece holds the 2nd position among 39 countries. Overall, the 2699 International Commission awarded beaches and 639 marinas.
In Greece Halkidiki, is the first winner with 47 blue flags to waver on the beaches of the prefecture. In parallel, two marinas were awarded from the "Blue flag".
First in the blue flags are Halikidiki to 47, with 40 of the Dodecanese, the prefecture of Lassithi, with 40 and 32 to Corfu.
The Blue Flag is an international symbol of quality, the best known, perhaps, environmental symbol in the world, and in 1987 awarded to those beaches and marinas to meet the stringent requirements.
